No mystery about what comes after this page. Here's the exact sequence from your request to a plan for your home.

Step 01

We call you

Within one business day we call to learn what you need more room for, your timeline, and the budget you're working with. No sales script.

Step 02

Free on-site consultation

We walk your property, measure what's actually possible, and talk through design options, materials, and realistic scope before anything is promised.

Step 03

Clear plan, clear price

You get an itemized proposal with a real timeline. No surprise change orders, no numbers that move after you sign.

Why Homeowners Choose Us

Marin County expertise

Local permitting, hillside lots, and the mid-century Eichler quirks that trip up out-of-area contractors.

04

Permits & code, handled

Plans engineered to current California Building Code and Title 24, with inspections scheduled at every milestone.

05

Real communication

Weekly progress updates and a project manager who answers the phone, not a voicemail box you never hear back from.

FAQ

The seven questions, answered.

These are the questions every homeowner should ask a contractor before signing. Here are our answers, in writing, before you ever talk to us. Ask the same seven of anyone else you're considering.

Is your license current, and what classification is it?

Yes. Clear Design & Build holds California contractor license #1127694, and you can check its status, bond, and complaint history yourself on the CSLB license lookup. Any contractor who hesitates to give you a license number is telling you something.

Who is my day-to-day point of contact?

One project manager, named at the start, who stays with your project from the first walkthrough to the final punch list. You won't be routed through a call center or handed off between departments halfway through the build.

Is the bid itemized or lump-sum?

Itemized. You see labor, materials, permits, and allowances as separate lines, which is the only way to compare two bids honestly. A single lump-sum number tells you nothing about what's included, and it's where most budget surprises come from later.

What triggers a change order, and who approves it?

A change order happens when the scope changes, either because you want something different or because we open a wall and find something nobody could have known was there. Every change order is written, priced, and signed by you before the work happens. Nothing gets added to your invoice that you haven't approved.

What does the payment schedule look like?

Payments are tied to completed milestones, not to the calendar. California law also caps what any contractor can collect as a down payment on a home improvement contract, and we work well within it. If someone asks for a large share of the total up front, treat that as a warning sign.

Are your subcontractors covered by workers' compensation?

Yes. Every crew and subcontractor on your property carries workers' compensation, and we're happy to provide certificates on request. This matters more than most homeowners realize: if an uninsured worker is hurt on your property, the liability can land on you.

What happens if the timeline slips?

We tell you early, in plain terms, and we tell you why. Permit review and material lead times are the two variables no contractor fully controls, so we build realistic windows into the schedule rather than quoting a best case we can't hold. What we don't do is go quiet and let you find out on your own.
