Questions about your project, answered.
The same questions come up on almost every Mountain View project. Here are honest answers to the six we hear most.
Does my Mountain View home need HOA or design review approval before we start?
It depends on your neighborhood. Some Mountain View communities have HOA or architectural review requirements on top of city permitting, especially for changes visible from the street. We check this during our initial site visit and build any extra approval steps into your timeline upfront, so there are no delays once construction starts.
My Mountain View home is older. What if the foundation or wiring needs updating first?
Many Mountain View homes were built decades ago, and it's common to find outdated wiring, plumbing, or a foundation that won't support new construction as-is. We inspect these systems before finalizing your design, and if updates are needed, we fold that work into the project scope and cost estimate rather than surprising you mid-build.
My lot is small. Should I build up instead of out?
On tighter Mountain View lots, a second-story addition often makes more sense than expanding the footprint, since it preserves yard space and avoids setback issues. We'll evaluate your lot size, existing structure, and local zoning limits to recommend whichever approach gets you the space you need without unnecessary complications.
Will a new addition actually match the style of my existing home?
Yes, that's a priority for us. We match rooflines, siding, window styles, and trim details so the addition reads as part of the original house rather than an obvious add-on. During design, we walk you through material and finish samples side by side with your existing exterior before anything is ordered.
Can I change part of the design after construction has already started?
Minor changes are usually possible, but anything affecting layout, permitted plans, or structural work needs to go through a change order and, in some cases, a revised permit with the City. We'll always tell you honestly what a change will cost in time and budget before you decide, so you're never caught off guard.
Do you offer financing or payment plans for larger remodeling projects?
We structure payments in stages tied to project milestones, like design completion, permit approval, and construction phases, rather than asking for a large sum upfront. If you're exploring outside financing options such as a home equity loan or renovation loan, we're happy to talk through how the timeline lines up with your lender's disbursement schedule.
