Ready to remodel your Bay Area home?
Tell us what you're picturing. We'll talk through the scope, the timeline, and the cost, so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins, wherever you are in the Bay Area.
Free estimates. Straight answers. No pressure.
Questions about your project, answered.
The same questions come up on almost every Bay Area project. Here are honest answers to the five we hear most.
Do I need a permit for a home addition?
Yes. Any addition that adds square footage, whether it's a new room, a second story, or an ADU, requires a building permit from your local city's Building Division. We pull permits and handle plan review and inspections for every project, whether you're in Marin County or the South Bay, so you don't have to navigate the process yourself.
How much does a home addition cost?
Cost depends on the size, scope, and finishes you choose. A single bedroom addition runs very differently from a second-story expansion or a full ADU. Rather than quote a number that might not fit your project, we walk your property and put together a detailed estimate based on what you actually want to build.
How long does a home addition take from start to finish?
Most projects run about 4 to 7 months from the first consultation to move-in day, covering planning, permitting, and construction. Permit review times and material lead times are the biggest variables, and we'll map out a realistic timeline for your specific project before you commit to anything.
Can I stay in my home during construction?
In most cases, yes. We plan the work to keep disruption to daily life as low as possible, and we'll tell you upfront if any part of the project, like a major structural tie-in, requires you to be out of the space for a short stretch.
What's the difference between a home addition and an ADU?
A home addition expands your existing house, like a new bedroom or a second story. An ADU (accessory dwelling unit) is a separate, self-contained living space with its own kitchen and bathroom, often built above a garage or in the backyard. California's statewide ADU standards make them easier to build than in the past, and we can help you figure out which option fits your goals.
